The 2023 Land Rover Defender might look reminiscent of the 1950s original, but in reality it is a completely modern, high-tech off-roader with unique curb appeal. The Defender V8, especially in its shortened ‘90’ guise, is a bit of a niche vehicle with no direct rivals blending its three-door status, small footprint, off-road chops and V6 power. Given the Defender V6’s boxy shape and off-road cred, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is indeed the first one that comes to mind
Powering the Defender P400 is a 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engine with 48-Volt mild-hybrid technology. The engine produces 294kW of power and 550Nm of torque and is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with a high- and low-range transfer case. It’s capable of a 0-100km/h dash in a hot hatch-like 6.1 seconds. Fuel economy of 9.9 litres of fuel per 100km.
