Nicely redone 1965 Corvette Sting Ray with 558 PS heads to auction

Mecum Auctions will soon be selling a completely restored and overhauled Chevrolet Corvette convertible wearing 60-year-old Sting Ray bodywork on top of all-new chassis and drivetrain.

The owner of the American classic had it transplanted onto a modern tubular frame and swapped to a 6.2-liter LS9 V8 driven by a supercharger. It’s the same engine block as in the C6 Corvette ZR1, where it churns out 647 PS (638 hp / 476 kW). The listing mentions that the engine was de-boosted to 558 PS (550 hp / 410 kW) for this project, but that’s still plenty of power to send to the rear end via a 6MT.

What concerns us a bit is that there seems to be no mention anywhere of any modern tech like ESP or even just ABS installed – only power steering. In other words, whoever buys the car will want to make sure they have what it takes to keep it in check first.

On the exterior side of things, the Sting Ray restomod looks gorgeous thanks to a bespoke carbon aero kit and a deep black finish. The interior is red and just as stylish, with retro gauges and equipment wherever you look. An audio system is the only modern thing in sight.

The auction will take place on March 22. There are no estimates of the price.
