Carlex shows us what its idea of Popemobile looks like

While doctors are fighting for the life of Pope Francis, hospitalized with bilateral pneumonia earlier this week, Polish tuning company Carlex Design treats us to pictures of what could be the Pope’s next vehicle of choice.

The six-wheeled truck runs on the Mercedes-Benz G-Class underpinnings and is called the Habemus. It sports a distinct radiator grille with a Carlex logo, a new bumper and golden accents all around. Most importantly, it features a platform with a throne-like main seat and a quartet of smaller seats. Vehicles like this are used by Vatican to conduct parades and ceremonies.

The cabin matches the interior with its pristine white leather trim and red carpeting. There is no mention of any powertrain mods.

What puzzles us is the reasoning behind the build. Mercedes-Benz actually gifted Pope Francis a custom all-electric G 580 EQ mere two months ago. Why Carlex would go ahead and design another one is unclear. It’s also unknown whether these 3D renderings will ever come to life or remain as they are.
