Lexus GX 550 gets gunfire and explosion protection from Inkas

While Lexus is busy updating its GX lineup for 2025, Canadian armored vehicle manufacturer Inkas has released an armor package for the current model.

Ballistic steel panels let the SUV withstand automatic rifle fire up to 7.62mm caliber and a simultaneous explosion of two grenades planted from below. Heavy-duty 20-inch wheels shod in run-flat tires ensure mobility in an emergency, and it helps that the GX looks nearly stock with all the upgrades – no due attention attracted.

The engine stays unmodified with its 354 PS (349 hp / 260 kW). Inkas still replaces the door hinges, reinforces the suspension and armors the fuel tank, meaning the car likely weighs a fair bit more after the conversion. Still, with a robust 10-speed transmission and all-wheel drive, it should remain about as agile and fast as before the mods.

In terms of options, customers get a fire suppression system for the engine bay, a roof hatch acting as an emergency exit, surveillance and night vision cameras, a strobe light, and even an oxygen filter for gas attacks. Armored bumpers and a siren are also mentioned.
