5-meter long, 134-HP Hongqi E-QM5 EV closes in on production

Hongqi introduced its new E-QM5 model early this year, and now, the car is close to entering mass production despite some apparent design oddities.

At 5,040 mm long and 1,910 mm wide with 2,990 mm between the axles, the luxury saloon is unusually tall at 1,569 mm. In fact, it is 100 mm taller than the Audi A8 and BMW 7 Series. Wheel sizes start low at 18 inches, and the trunk offers 433 liters of luggage space.

The second row is represented by two individual seats with power-adjustable backs, while the right seat additionally has a slide-out footrest. The HVAC system has four zones and can be controlled from the armrests.

Luxury seems barely present elsewhere: the front seats are power-adjustable but not ventilated. The dashboard sports old-fashioned analog gauges, and options like sunroof or HUD display are missing altogether.

Power comes from a single electric motor mounted at the rear end, producing only 136 PS (134 hp / 100 kW)/ This clamps the top speed down to just 130 km/h, or 80 miles per hour. A 54-kWh battery yields up to 431 km (267 miles) of range according to an outdated NEDC standard, which usually means around 250 km (155 miles) of actual range.
