Rivian pulls $5k kitchenette option from R1T catalog for ‘a redesign’

Camp Kitchen, one of the most interesting OEM features available with the all-electric Rivian R1T pickup, is no longer in production. The $5,000 pop-out kitchen module consisted of a two-burner stove, a sink, a water tank and multiple drawers.

The company sent out notifications to the buyers telling them the option needed a redesign before it could return to the market. Those who ticked the Camp Kitchen box in their spec were notified that Rivian did not guarantee its installation prior to delivery. Should the car ship without the module, all affected customers are due a full refund.

No reasons whatsoever were provided for the sudden recall. The Rivian R1T currently starts from U.S. $73,000. It comes equipped with a battery pack EPA-rated for 418 kilometers (260 miles) of electric driving range. Paying a $6,000 premium extends the range to 515 km (320 miles). An upcoming Max Pack option promises up to 644 km (400 miles) on a single charge, but it will come in at a cool $16,000.
