Edo Motorsport unveils the ultimate BMW i8 track tool

We have recently reported about an especially lightweight i8 Hybrid Coupe built by Edo Motorsport. Now, let us check out one of the tuner’s most ambitious projects: the i8 Procar.

The tune-up shop had originally intended to imitate the i8 safety car employed at the Formula E racing series, but even a cursory look at the result suggests that it has overshot that expectation. Having invested around €170,000 into the project, the company ended with a unique i8 almost completely made out of carbon fiber and fitted with a high-end aerodynamic package. The rear diffuser and rear wing are our personal highlights here.

The hybrid powertrain also received a major overhaul, skyrocketing from 374 hp (279 kW) and 570 Nm (420 lb-ft) of torque to 490 hp (365 kW) and 890 Nm (656 lb-ft). The most interesting part is that the electric motor also ended up with the power upgrade, which bumped its output by 23 hp (18 kW).

The list of modifications goes on to mention ultralight 18-inch BMW Motorsport Forged Race wheels, Bilstein suspension, negative wheel camber (3º) and gutted interior.

Edo Motorsport prepares to set a new record on the Bilster Berg Raceway in Germany by concluding a lap in under 1:50. If successful, it will proceed to test its i8 Procar on other racetracks around the world.
