Uneven Match: Tuned Diesel BMW 430d vs. BMW M4 Competition

With all else equal, a tame diesel-powered BMW 4-Series doesn’t have the faintest chance against the range-topping BMW M4 Competition. It would take great skill and expertise to boost a diesel engine to match one of the best petrol six-pots out there. But lo and behold, someone did just that!

In the latest video by Carwow, a meek BMW 430d going up against the mighty BMW M4 Comp has a trick up its sleeve. The stock M4 Comp churns out 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. The 430d normally has only 258 PS (254 hp / 190 kW) and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft). This example, however, packs 462 PS (456 hp / 340 kW) and 1,017 Nm (750 lb-ft) of torque, and would probably be able to tow trucks if it ever decided to.

But will the outside win by its colossal torque advantage alone? The M4 still inches out a power advantage, which could very well be decisive…
