Listen to this bike-swapped Mazda MX-5 sing with a turbo

YouTuber Reed Make Car has spent the last few months perfecting a rather unusual and fun build – a Mazda MX-5 Miata swapped to a Honda CBR1000RR superbike engine. The latest video focuses on a recently added turbo kit that revolutionizes the way the petite roadster sounds.

As you may know, the original Miata of this generation gets 142 PS (140 hp / 104 kW) from its naturally aspirated four-pot. Swapping raised the output to a solid 194 PS (192 hp / 144 kW). Reed Make Car didn’t want to stop there, though, and proceeded to strip the car clean of everything not strictly needed, including even some non-critical metal parts. He also replaced the clutch to accommodate the high-revving engine’s temper: the 1.0-liter mill doesn’t hit its red line until 13,000 RPM.

The build is still far from complete, but the car is drivable and sounds like a racer – chek it out in the video. Next up, Reed Make Car plans to tune the boost settings and take some dyno measurements.
