Reborn Opel Frontera unveiled in Europe

Opel has officially brought back the Frontera nameplate. After posting some photos of the crossover SUV this spring, it has now followed up with powertrain details and EU pricing.

The new Frontera will be available on the Old Continent in EV and mild hybrid flavors priced from €23,900.

The entry-level car combines a rather basic 1.2-liter turbo engine rated at 100 PS (99 hp / 74 kW) with an electric motor worth an additional 28 PS (28 hp / 21 kW). The motor is integrated into a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. Should this be too tame for you, you may wait for a version where the engine gets boosted to 136 PS (134 hp / 100 kW).

The EV starts from €28,900. It gets a 113-PS (111-hp / 83-kW) electric motor and a 44-kWh battery pack in the first version to go on sale. The WLTP range doesn’t exceed 305 km (190 miles), but Opel promises us a superior version with 402 km (250 miles) or so in the future.

In terms of options, the company mentions a pair 10-inch infotainment displays (you get a basic phone dock station otherwise), sat-nav, a reversing camera, a wireless charging pad, front parking sensors, and 17-inch wheels. A third seat row costs just €800 to add. Opel boasts that the CUV can take up to 1,600 liters (56.5 cubic feet) of luggage to the trunk and carry up to 240 kilos (529 lbs) more on the roof thanks to extra-sturdy rails.
