Around nine thousand Mercedes-Benz-branded vehicles have been discovered parked on a runway of an unused airfield in Germany, slowly decaying under the elements.
Sources report that the cars were originally assembled in the United States, but were subsequently turned down by German dealerships due to discovered seat and bumper defects. Since attempting to repair and sell any of these carried various risks – including reputational ones – the companies simply piled them up on the abandoned military airbase of Ahlhorn, near Bremen.
This is not the first time this particular runway gets cluttered with Mercedes-Benz cars. A while ago, the company used it as a temporary parking lot for diesel-powered models that had to be upgraded in the aftermath of the Dieselgate.
