Mercedes-Benz turns a CLA into an art object

The third-generation Mercedes-Benz CLA unveiled in March needed some publicity, so Mercedes let U.S. female rapper and four-time Grammy nominee Ice Spice turn it into a fashion statement on wheels.

The car officially opens Class of Creators, a series of collaborations between the German automaker and five visionary artists. These are the people that inform the future of fashion, design, music and so on, Mercedes claims.

The entry #1, seen here, is called Molten Chrome. It wears a diamond-encrusted chain known as the Princess. Soon enough, Ice Spice will be releasing a batch of black and pastel T-shirts, sweaters and other clothing items following the same design theme.

Future collaborations are planned with Gustaf Westman, a Swedish interior designer, and Colm Dillane, Hot Wheels car designer. The company will also team up with the team behind League of Legends for a one-off art piece. Westman’s creation is slated to debut on May 22 this year, and Dillane’s work is scheduled for reveal on June 28.
