Skoda Kylaq is a cheap CUV for India

Skoda has released some official photos and the main specifications of its upcoming Kylaq crossover, destined to become its smallest and most affordable model in India to date. It packs a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo engine and is set to debut on November 6, 2024.

The Kylaq is the Czech carmaker’s first vehicle ever to be under four meters long. It makes good sense, though, since up to 30% of the Indian car market is composed of such subcompacts. It runs on the same platform as the bigger Kushaq – the MAB-A0-IN, which is versatile enough to support downscaling like this.

Three cylinders of displacement clamp the power output at 115 PS (113 hp / 86 kW) and 178 Nm (131 lb-ft) of torque. Buyers can choose between six-speed manual and six-speed automatic for the transmission and opt for an electronic diff lock. Combined with a solid 189 mm (7.4 inches) of ground clearance, this should make the Kylaq fairly drivable on the bumpier roads of India.

Trim-wise, the company promises its customers up to 30 active safety assists, six airbags, and ventilated front seats.
