Subaru Forester goes hybrid for the USA
Subaru has announced a part-electric Forester SUV coming to the United States soon.
Until now, the Forester has only been available in North America with a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine. The new hybrid remains to be revealed, but the company says it won’t be the same as its EU and Japanese counterparts.
This may mean that the U.S. version will get the same S:HEV powertrain as the recently launched Crosstrek. It centers on a 2.5-liter flat-four engine with 160 PS (158 hp / 118 kW) and 209 Nm (154 lb-ft) of torque. An electric motor supplies another 120 PS (118 hp / 88 kW) and 270 Nm (200 lb-ft) of torque, and there is a motor-generator for additional fuel economy.
It remains to be seen whether our guess is correct.
