Ioniq 5 smashes through an altitude record

The Ioniq 5 has made its way into the Guinness Book of Records for making an all-electric trip that involved descending by 5.8 kilometers (3.6 miles). It took two weeks for Hyundai India crew to complete the route.

The journey started from the country’s highest point with paved roads – the Umling La Mountain Pass. The spot where it took off has an altitude of 5,799 meters, or 19,025 feet, above sea level. The destination lay in Kuttanad region far in the south, some 3 meters (10 ft.) below sea level.

The EV had to cover more than 4,900 kilometers (3,044 miles) of road in between. Hyundai said it had succeeded “effortlessly”, but refused to elaborate on the details, in particular how the battery charging was done.
