Last WRC-winning Lancia Delta HF Integrale goes under the hammer

UK-based exotic car dealership Duncan Hamilton Rofgo is offering a 1991 Lancia Delta HF Integrale for sale that it claims Didier Auriol and Juha Kankkunen used to drive back in the day. Judging by the livery, it could be the winner of the world’s last Rally Championship once piloted by the legendary Carlos Sainz himself.

The listing is vague on details, not mentioning whether the “victory” in the WRC refers to the championship as a whole or a couple of won stages. The Lancia team scored its last champion’s title in 1991 with Kankkunen claiming the gold. In 1992, both him and Auriol proceeded to only win at intermediate stages.

Sainz got behind the steering wheel of the car 31 years ago; Lancia had effectively retired from the WRC by that time. It retained a less-than-official presence there thanks to the Jolly Club Private Team. Despite being labeled as “private”, that team actually enjoyed quite a bit of continued support from the automaker. Aside from Seinz, who came into Jolly Club from Toyota, Lancia struck a deal with a new sponsor that year, replacing the Martini liveries on its cars with the colors of Repsol.

The car on sale right now still wears that Repsol livery and has numerous inscriptions around its body that highlight its connection to Sainz. It’s worth noting that the driver never scored a single gold medal with Lancia; his best result was the silver he won at the Acropolis Rally of Greece.

According to the listing, the car comes equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine linked to all four wheels via a 6MT. The output should be close to 400 PS (394 hp / 294 kW), but it isn’t mentioned. What we do know is that Massimo “Miki” Biasion, ex-Lancia driver and two-time WRC champion, restored it to peak condition in 2019.

The current asking price is £425,000. It’s probably worth mentioning that the same car was sold at another auction a few years ago for £321,000.
