Toyota bashes California’s strict environmental standards

The government of California plans to tighten up the state’s nature protection laws, and some automakers are less than happy.

Starting from model year 2026 – which starts in the fall of 2025 – all automotive companies will be obligated to have no less than 35% EVs and hybrids in their sales structure. By 2035, the Californian automobile market is expected to be completely electrified.

The law remains to be passed, but Toyota USA is already ringing the alarm bell. The company believes that these electrification goals are ‘unrealistic’ and that the authorities should back off from automakers with their excessive regulations. Right now, car manufacturers in the United States are obligated to follow not one, but two emission standards, which is why prices rise and the market as a whole suffers, Toyota alleges.
