Lancia Ypsilon sales paint a bleak future for the brand

In spite of a complete brand reboot and the launch of a next-generation Ypsilon hatchback, Italian automaker Lancia still can’t catch a break.

Only 2,195 hatchbacks found new owners in January–February 2025, a 73% fall from the last year. Lancia’s aggressive pricing policy may have contributed to this disaster. Selling what is essentially a fancier Peugeot 208 starting from €24,000 for a hybrid or €30,000 for an EV isn’t the surest bet in a troubled economy.

For a bit of perspective, the previous Ypsilon generation – which entered production in 2011 and bowed out in 2024 – cost less than €20,000 in the base trim.
