Mercedes-AMG debunks rumors about bringing the V8 back for C- and E-Class

Reports have emerged recently, claiming that Mercedes-AMG was intending to revive the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 for select C- and E-Class sports cars. We are now told that those reports were just that – rumors.

According to Auto Motor und Sport, it was able to get a comment from an uncredited representative of Mercedes-AMG who said that the company was not considering bringing back the iconic M177 V8 – not even as a part of a hybrid powertrain for mid-size sports cars or latest-gen executive sedans.

The current Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance debuted in sedan and wagon flavors in the fall of 2022. It received a hybrid drivetrain option, but that one was based exclusively on the company’s 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine known as the M139l.
