2025 Renault Austral debuts with revised looks, cozy interior

The Renault Astral has received its first facelift since the debut in the spring of 2022. Sales in select European countries will begin in May.

Outside of France, the new SUV will now be offered with a 1.3-liter turbocharged engine assisted by a starter-generator for 160 PS (158 hp / 118 kW). The new hybrid powertrain consumes 6.2 liters of gas per 100 kilometers on average, Renault claims. That’s 38 miles per U.S. gallon, in case you were wondering.

On its domestic market, the Austral will continue to be available with a 200-PS (197-hp / 147-kW) hybrid system. It incorporates a 1.2-liter turbo three-pot, an electric motor rated at 70 PS (69 hp / 51 kW) and 205 Nm (151 lb-ft) of torque, and a small stater-generator for faster launches and shifts. This one only burns through 4.7 liters per 100 km, which corresponds to 50 MPG.
