Check out a Civic-engined Lambo Huracan

A team of racing drivers from Thailand bought a Lamborghini Huracan to swap its 5.2-liter V10 for a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. You’d be surprised to hear what the reason for this bizarre tuning was.

Apparently, the tuners were concerned that Lambo’s stock engine – for all its unquestionable merits – may struggle to stay put for a whole day on end. A 25-hour-long endurance race is taking place in Thailand next year, and the weather might prove too hot for the standard powertrain. In contrast, the two-liter mill extracted from a 2017 Honda Civic Type R (FK8) should do a better job.

It enjoys a range of high-end upgrades, too. These include a large intercooler feeding from a roof scoop, a new subframe for a seamless link to the Lambo’s Xtrac sequential transmission, and an upsized turbocharger. As a result, the wheels get around 350 PS (345 hp / 257 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque.

That’s still not as much thrust as the Huracan Super Trofeo Evo has straight from the factory, but nothing that cannot be overcome. The team outfitted the supercar with an all-new carbon-fiber aero kit said to be even lighter and more efficient than the stock body kit. The new rear wing, rear diffuser and front splitter should improve downforce and thus enhance handling and power delivery, bridging the gap between the tuned car and the original.

The race is still a ways away, but if the video here is any indication, the Huracan is scary fast with its new power core.
