The Toyota Starlet Cross is a compact CUV for South Africa

The new Starlet Cross model looks just like the Indian-spec Urban Cruiser Taisor that it is based upon, but Toyota will be offering it with different powertrain options in South Africa. Prices will start from 299,900 ZAR.

Customers in the country can choose from a few new colors not available in India, but that’s about all for the design differences. The same rings true for the cabin – the layout is the same, the infotainment system still has a 9-inch display, and while there are some new trim colors on the list, the rest is unchanged.

For the engine, Toyota offers a 1.5-liter petrol unit producing 105 PS (104 hp / 77 kW) in tandem with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. In India, the same car is available with a wider selection of engines, some of them rated at 90 and 100 metric hp, as well as a dual-clutch transmission. These options will not be present on the SAR market.
