Zeekr announces a pair of new SUVs

Geely’s Zeekr brand will be releasing two more crossover SUVs this year, CarNewsChina reports quoting Geely CEO Andy An. Both will feature an innovative “Super Hybrid” powertrain making them exceptionally fuel-efficient.

According to the publication, the new Zeekr SUVs are currently known under in-house designations DX1E and EX1E. One of them has already been spotted running road tests. Both will be available as plug-in hybrids and pure EVs – a move away from the company’s earlier decision to make both electric only.

Little is known about the Super Hybrid powertrain right now. Andy An said it would combine the advantages of electric drive units with the economy and range of a PHEV. Rumors suggest it could be a new iteration of the company’s NordThor EM-I technology revealed last fall. Cars on this powertrain have a claimed fuel economy of less than 3 liters per 100 km (which means 78+ MPG) and can go on for up to 2,390 km (1,485 miles) before needing a refill.

Having said that, it is likely that these new Zeekr SUVs won’t be nearly as economical – simply because they are full-size and pretty heavy, according to reports. We should learn more when the Super Hybrid system makes its debut at the Auto Shanghai show in April.

In terms of sales, Zeekr is hoping to find buyers for 320,000 cars this year – an ambitious 100,000-unit increase over 2024. It also plans to open 150 new dealerships worldwide, meaning it will have over 500 in total.
