The new MG Gloster for India is a rebadged Maxus D90 for China

Had enough of the clones lately? So have we, but the India Auto Expo perhaps isn’t the best destination for those looking for original automotive designs. Meet the ‘all-new’ MG Gloster, a crossover for the Indian market that mimics the Maxus D90 to the last bolt and nut, even though the local newspapers claim otherwise.

This is not new for MG, which already has several clones in its lineup, represented by Baojun, Maxus, and Roewe vehicles with their badges replaced. SAIC Group controls all four companies, so there is little doubt that the spree will continue.

MG does not disclose any performance-related details at the moment. The D90 used to ship with Fiat’s MultiJet diesel engine which is no longer compliant with the eco standards and will therefore be dropped from the lineup. As for the 2.0 V4 TSI (224 hp / 167 kW, 360 Nm / 266 lb-ft), this one will likely be available. Transmissions will probably be limited to six-speed manual and automatic, and customers may get a choice between FWD and AWD. China-spec Maxus D90 also boasts a high-end Pro trim with 480 Nm (356 lb-ft) of torque, eight-speed ZF transmission, and black interior décor.

Sales of the MG Gloster in India will begin later this year.
