1 out of 10 Ferrari J50 goes up on sale for nearly $3.6M

Four and a half years ago, Ferrari celebrated 50 years in Japan by releasing ten highly special J50 roadsters. One of these is currently up for grabs in Tokyo.

As modern Ferraris go, the example on sale counts among the rarest and most sought after, especially since it was made by a subdivision of the company specializing in unique builds, like the 2020 Omologata.

The J50 has 488 Spider underpinnings, but the body is almost all new and resembles the F40, F50 and 288 GTO in places. Lightweight carbon panels replace the aluminum removable top, the see-through engine bay lid is made of polycarbonate, there are four round taillights in the back instead of two, and the 20-inch wheels are new as well.

The 3.9-liter turbocharged V8 under the hood benefits from a slight boost from its original 670 to 690 metric horsepower (661 to 680 hp; 493 to 507 kW, respectively). The latest successors to the 488 model – the F8 Tributo and Spider – both hit the transmission with 720 PS (710 hp / 529 kW).

Based on the photos, the black roadster seems to be in top condition with only 692 kilometers (430 miles) under its belt. The asking price is 398 million Yen, which roughly translates into U.S. $3.6 million.
