Ineos announces a fuel cell-based Grenadier version

The gas-powered Ineos Grenadier will not go into production until July 2022, but in the meantime, the company decided to equip it with a third-party hydrogen powertrain.

Public road tests of this version should begin in late 2022. The automaker admits that it is not going to develop the electrochemical generator from scratch. Instead, it will borrow it from Hyundai’s Nexo crossover.

The move appears less surprising when you consider that Ineos counts among the world’s largest chemical corporations producing around 300,000 metric tons of hydrogen for its own projects per year. It even has a subsidiary called Inovyn, which specifically produces hydrogen for fuel cell EVs.
