Video: McLaren 765LT kills Porsche 911 Turbo S on the drag strip

Electric vehicles may eventually kill off ICE cars, but many manufacturers keep polishing combustion engines to make them more efficient and powerful, so there is still hope in that camp. Here are two more reasons to stay with gas, named Porsche 911 Turbo S and McLaren 765LT.

Of course, the drag race arranged by Carwow in this video is not entirely fair. The 911 is whole 300 kg (660 lbs) heavier than its opponent and less powerful at 658 PS (650 hp / 485 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft). On the upside, it has four driven wheels.

The McLaren is easily the favorite with 775 PS (764 hp / 570 kW) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque, but it makes do with RWD. This gives the Porsche some headway during the start.

As speeds start to get serious, however, the McLaren quickly recovers its lead and is the first to cross the finish line – if only by 0.2 seconds. The Porsche then proceeds to win the brake test by a wide margin.

The conclusion? It was a very close race, and the McLaren would have probably lost it if the German car were stripped clean.
