Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 shows up on new spy photos

Mercedes-AMG continues its work on refreshing the GLE lineup, as evidenced by this AMG 53 test vehicle running its final pre-production tests.

Most of the redesigned bits are concentrated at the front: look for the horizontal lines at the corners and vertical radiator grille bars. Camouflaged bits above the headlights seem to conceal new lamps.

Much less is going on in the back: the taillights appear more squared off than before, but that’s about it. The interior is dominated by a single widescreen display fulfilling dashboard and infotainment functions at once.

Everything points towards the refreshed GLE 53 having the same old 3.0-liter inline-six turbo engine assisted by an EQ Boost motor. The mild-hybrid system output will probably stay at 435 PS (429 hp / 320 kW), and the familiar nine-speed automatic transmission has no apparent reason to be replaced, either. The current version of the car needs 5.3 seconds for its 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint.

The unveiling is expected to take place in the first half of 2022.
