Alfa Romeo throws the Tonale SUV out into the cold for testing purposes

The Alfa Romeo Tonale never came out when it should have due to a lack of electronic components, and the next launch date is “late 2022” for Europe (USA pending). As if to tell us that the testing period is nearly over, pre-production vehicles have changed from their thick wraps into light and revealing film.

Despite the cladding, one can easily see that the Tonale SUV mostly stays true to its concept version from nearly three years ago. Predictable changes include enlarged head- and taillights, normal side mirrors instead of cameras, and non-gimmicky door handles.

The Alfa Romeo Tonale is set to become the Italian marque’s first part-electric vehicle. In its top specification, it is expected to use a PHEV powertrain that would combine a 1.3-liter turbo engine with an electric motor. Rumor has it that the system currently produces 240 PS (237 hp / 176 kW), sending it to all four wheels. More conventional four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines should also be available.
