Chinese G-Wagen maker getting a Jeep-like SUV ready to rumble

Chinese off-road vehicle specialist Beijing (BAIC Group) is widely known for producing SUVs with Mercedes-Benz G-Class aesthetic (watch the video to compare). According to the latest image leak published on AutoHome.cn, however, the company’s next rip-off will be directed at Jeep instead.

These unofficial sketches depict a car that will allegedly debut at the Auto China 2022 show in Beijing next month. It looks like a bulky, edgy SUV with impressive wheel arches, massive bumpers and a very familiar-looking radiator grille with large vertical slits and integrated headlights. Normally, we would say it is one of the signature traits of a Jeep off-roader, but AutoHome calls it “a telltale grille of a BJ vehicle”.

We are told that the vehicle is a full-size SUV designed to be available with two and three rows of seats to choose from. It will also reportedly have two powertrains, but very little is known about those. The source supposes it could be an ICE powertrain and a range-extender hybrid with over 1,000 km (621 miles) of combined range. The top spec is expected to perform its standard sprint exercise in six seconds.
