Chris Ramsey, an adventurer from the UK, is getting ready for his ride of a lifetime. Starting in 2023, he will drive his all-electric Nissan Ariya from the Northern hemisphere all the way to the South Magnetic Pole, spanning at least 27,350 km of distance (17,000 miles).
The battery SUV debuted in 2020 in two variants – 2WD and 4WD, the former offering up to 500 km (310 miles) of range on a charge. Ramsey says he will pick the 4WD version out of obvious considerations, which will reduce the available range and necessitate more frequent charging. Having said this, the Ariya has yet to ship, and its actual qualities remain yet to be assessed.
According to Ramsey, his mission is to prove that electric vehicles lend themselves to the most extreme driving conditions and can be fun regardless of where in the world you are.
An important thing to note is that the crossover will not be stock: Arctic Truck will tune it for the long journey ahead. The details are scarce at this moment, but wheels, tires and suspension will be upgraded for sure.
The journey will begin in March 2023, Chris Ramsey says.
