Tokyo Auto Salon evolves into a pan-industrial event heading into 2023

JAMA – the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association – has unveiled its plans to reformat the Tokyo Auto Salon into something more. Starting in 2023, the event will be known as the Japan All-Industry Show (JAIS), no longer focusing on just cars.
The association argues that the latest, pre-Covid-era show was attended by 1.3 million of guests. Even now, despite numerous Covid-related restrictions, the organizer sees how more than a million guests would attend such an event. However, its format would have to evolve to suit the times.
To this end, JAMA claims it is ready to launch a “brand new show” no longer limited by the mobility theme. Representatives of all industries would be invited to this new event, although details remain vague.
Speaking of the merits of the Japanese automotive industry, a JAMA representative stressed that Japan had great commercial transports and motorbikes to offer the world, not just light passenger cars. It sounded a bit strange, because both LCVs and bikes have been represented at the TAS all along.
The last TAS took place three years ago. It used to be a biennale until the coronavirus pandemic put it on hold.
