New BMW X3 spied testing outdoors for the first time

BMW let the fourth generation of the X3 run the streets at last, and camera-wielding car paparazzi once again managed to somehow materialize nearby and make high-definition photos.

In addition to the wrap, the prototype uses fake bodywork and temporary lighting to mislead us regarding its appearance. This means it is still a very early design iteration. BMW seems in no hurry to get the next-gen X3 out, and it is understandable considering that the model only went through a mid-life refresh last year (see video). In summary, we would not expect it to debut any earlier than 2024.

Looking at the recently updated BMW X1, it seems reasonable for the new X3 to wind up with a slightly larger radiator grille and the latest iDrive infotainment system with a large curved display. A similar system can be found in the recent 3-Series sedans.
