Fiat unveils the Fastback, a coupe-like compact SUV for Latin America

Fiat’s new Fastback model comes based on a proprietary platform developed by its Brazil branch, a circumstance that might prevent it from being released elsewhere.
Based on the images, the Fastback is a muscular-looking, coupe-like compact SUV with sculpted sides, a rugged body kit and bulky c-pillars tilted for a sportier appearance. It looks like at least some trim levels will offer a contrasting roof, and the radiator grille pattern may be trim-specific, too.
The Fastback comes based on the same platform and drivetrain as the local Fiat Pulse (see video). At 4.3 – 4.5 meters large, though, the Fastback is noticeably larger with a bigger trunk thanks to a long rear overhang. Buyers will be able to choose between a 1.0-liter engine rated at 130 PS (128 hp / 96 kW) and a larger 1.3-liter unt with 185 PS (182 hp / 136 kW) at the output end. Like the Pulse, the top spec of the Fastback may get released under Abarth branding.
While not official, it is assumed that the Fastback will be one of the Italian marque’s most premium products for the Latin American market. As such, Autoevolution expects it to come with a wide range of equipment options, such as a 10.1-inch touch-sensitive infotainment display and a large number of driving assist features.
The full reveal remains penciled in for October.
