Volkswagen is getting ready to update its Touareg SUV lineup, as these images make clear. Unfortunately, the test vehicle uses smart camo to conceal the important bits.

Even so, we suppose there will be no drastic changes in the exterior and interior departments. The engine lineup might get revised, though. The current top spec is called Touareg R and uses a 3.0-liter turbo diesel assisted by an electric motor for 462 PS (456 hp / 340 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque.

If you zoom in on the photo with the tailgate, you may just about discern the ‘Electrified Vehicle’ badge, but the rest of the car doesn’t look like the R spec. This means we may see more hybrid options in the new model year.
