YouTube channel km77.com has posted the moose test footage featuring a Suzuki Vitara. The affordable SUV fell a little bit short of passing the test, but still managed to surpass many of the more expensive competitors, like the Volvo C40 and the Range Rover Sport.

The vehicle tested was a Vitara MHEV with 129 PS (127 hp / 95 kW) of combined power driving all four wheels. It had 17-inch wheels on shod in Continental EcoContact 5 tires.

The first attempt succeeded at 74 km/h (46 mph). As you can see in the video, the Japanese soft-roader easily swerves from the obstacle and slides smoothly back into the lane. The driver then performs another successful attempt at 75 km/h (46.6 mph). During the subsequent runs performed at 77 and 78 km/h (47.8 and 48.5 mph), the car only hit one cone each time, suggesting driver’s error.

In the end, the test crew proclaimed the Vitara a reasonably safe, maneuverable and balanced crossover SUV despite its mixed performance.
