The South African team of Cars.co.za has managed to get seven popular mid-size pickups together for a quarter-mile drag strip test. Which one is your money on?

The two main stars of the event are the new Ford Ranger and Volkswagen Amarok. Both produce an equal 210 PS (207 hp / 154 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. Their closest rival, the Toyota Hilux, makes do with a 2.8-liter turbo diesel rated at 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft).

A Mitsubishi Triton also joined the fray despite only having 180 PS (178 hp / 132 kW) at its disposal. A competitor from China arrived in the guise of a Great Wall P-Series truck, packing OEM-rated 163 PS (161 hp / 120 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque under the hood.

Rounding off the lineup was a Nissan Navara with 190 PS (187 hp / 140 kW) and an Isuzu D-Max with a 3.0-liter diesel and the same power rating as the Navara.
