Tens of thousands of Tesla cars unsold in the USA can be seen from space

The parking lots around Gigafactory Texas are overflowing with unclaimed EVs, IT Home reports citing data from the SkyFi satellite imaging service. The last year’s shots of the same lots reveal that they were largely empty before the EV market went on a decline.

The publication compares the latest data from March 2024 with an earlier photo dated October 2023. Judging by the approximate percentages shown in the images, Tesla has been seriously struggling with moving its stock these past months.

The company’s official sales data seems to confirm it. In Q1 2024, Tesla reported making around 433,300 vehicles, but selling only 386,800. This implies that some out of the 46,500 remaining examples may still be sitting in a wide area around Gigafactory Texas.

One of Tesla execs predicted in Q1 that the customer interest towards EVs would resurge in Q2, but there have been no signs of it so far. In early May, news came in that Tesla sales in China kept falling steadily even as the market as a whole continued its growth in the region.
