Genesis GV80 gets a driver’s special

Jacky Ickx, famous racing driver and currently the official partner of Genesis (see video), now has a concept car dedicated to him. It’s called the GV80 Desert Edition and celebrates his victory at the Paris–Dakar Rally back in 1983.

Genesis is tight-lipped on the details, but you can make some conclusions based on the photos alone. For example, the SUV features improved suspension with more ground clearance and chunky off-road tires. It also rocks a new front bumper with a skid plate and towing eyes. Auxiliary lighting on the roof and an expedition rack with extra storage compartments round off the build.

The car exists purely for show and to remind us about Jacky Ickx’s numerous victories, some of which took place on the Formula One circuit and some others on the 24 Hours of the Le Mans track. His Dakar Rally gold was more of an exception in his track-focused career. Still, Genesis apparently wanted us to consider that its cars lend themselves well to off-road applications with some aftermarket mods.
