Lexus gives its ES 300h a mild facelift in Japan

The newest iteration of Lexus ES (see video) is still too young and fresh to warrant a major update, but the hybrid sedan model ES 300h still receives some tweaks heading into 2021.

The main change comes in the shape of a new lithium-ion battery replacing the old NiMH one. With the superior power storage on board, the ES 300h will be able to cover 22.3 kilometers on a single liter of gasoline instead of 20.6 km, the manufacturer claims citing the results according to the WLTC range-testing protocol.

The optional side cameras that you can buy as a replacement for mirrors have been improved in quality, and the dual dashboard screens now render the distances to other cars more realistically.

The wireless gadget charger pad has grown in size. The base trim level now offers automatic braking during parking, blind zone monitoring, and a multimedia system with support for Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and SmartDeviceLink.

The refreshed Lexus ES 300h is already available for purchase in Japan. Its powertrain still incorporates the standard 2.5-liter non-turbo gasoline engine rated at 178 hp and 221 Nm alongside an electric motor with 120 hp and 202 Nm of its own.
