Meet the Stellantis AutoDrive, a Level 3 self-driving system

Stellantis has decided not to rely on third parties too much when it designed a semi-autonomous driving system of its own.

The company says that the feature – called AutoDrive – is already ripe for use in production cars, but may nonetheless take a while longer to arrive. In fact, the company has no estimates when it may be released.

Why invest in self-driving technology when you aren’t planning on using it? According to Stellantis, the market for these technologies is still nascent and not highly competitive, so it makes sense to polish them in-house until they work as flawlessly as one can realistically expect. In other words: no hurry.
