The Volkswagen Aero B is an electric station wagon with impressive range

According to Volkswagen Passenger Cars CEO Ralf Brandstetter, the ID. Space Vizzion Concept will turn into a production estate/wagon called the Volkswagen Aero B in three years’ time. It will offer up to 700 km (435 miles) of driving range and will be produced in Emden, Germany.

The show car – which you can see in our gallery and the attached video – had a 82-kWh battery sufficient for 590 km (366 miles) of WLTP-rated range. It seems like the production version will be getting a larger 111-kWh battery reserved for vehicles based on the newest MEB platform. It is possible that customers will get to choose between two battery sizes. As of right now, Volkswagen’s longest-range EV is the ID.3 Pro S hatchback with its 550 km (342 miles) of WLTP-rated range.

The ID. Space Vizzion Concept had an aerodynamic drag ratio as low as 0.24. It came equipped with only one rear-mounted engine rated at 272 PS (268 hp / 200 kW), but the manufacturer mentioned that another motor could be added to the front axle, resulting in 340 PS (335 hp / 250 kW) total output.

The company is also getting ready to reveal the VW Aero, a sedan styled after the ID. Vizzion Concept. The car should arrive by 2023 and will likely share the powertrain and tech with the Aero B. VW had originally intended to show the wagon in late 2021 and the sedan in 2022, but the pandemic has led to a change in plans.
