Mercedes-AMG introduces its first EV

Following the debut of the first part-electric Mercedes-AMG last week, the company revealed its first pure EV: the AMG EQS. Shipments are set to begin in the beginning of 2022, and prices will be revealed later.

The AMG EQS sports a distinct front fascia with a faux Panamericana grille pictured on it, black body trim, a rear diffuser, a large rear spoiler, and 21-inch wheels. Sport seats and steering wheel are considered standard equipment here, as is the BMUX Hyperscreen.

Powering the liftback is a motor configuration capable of 649 PS (640 hp / 477 kW) and 949 Nm (700 lb-ft) of torque. A temporary boost can bump the output by 102 PS (100 hp / 75 kW) and 71 Nm (52 lb-ft). The sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 3.4 seconds, and the top speed stays capped at its usual 250 km/h (155 mph). The battery is quite huge at 107.8 kilowatt-hours, but all ranges remain unannounced.

The entry-level specification still includes such niceties as 4WS, active air-ride suspension, and a feature called AMG Dynamic Select, which offers five presets each for suspension, steering, powertrain, and imitated exhaust soundtrack.
